In this course we will explore educational inequality through the lens of globalization. We will analyze both the transformative and emancipatory potential of globalization for education systems and individuals - and the ways in which processes of globalization in education cement and deepen inequality within and across national settings. In addition to an introduction to the major theories, issues and debates, this course will introduce students to some of the most prominent global actors in the field of education (e.g. OECD, UNESCO, World Bank) and themes of the contemporary global agenda in education (e.g. global citizenship, internationalization, 21st century skills, sustainability). Students will be exposed to diverse manifestations of these themes from across different sectors in Israel and other contexts, to highlight the variation in the perspectives and experiences of globalization in education, based on different ethnicities, religions, races, locations, genders and social classes.
