The course provides an understanding of China through the lens of the environment. It focuses upon China’s impact upon the global and national environment and global natural resources. It considers China’s transition to becoming a major economic power and will investigate the dichotomy of economy and environment in order to maintain China’s momentum of economic growth and social stability. It discusses China’s environmental policy, policy implementation and environmental governance. It addresses China’s strategy and geopolitical implications on the international stage in ensuring supply of global natural resources, energy and food in order to support its economy, industry and quality of life. It discusses China’s process of globalization, finance and investment under the Belt and Road Initiative and its infrastructural impact upon the environment.
