The basic goal of the course is to enable the student to understand the process of solution-structure determination by NMR and to critically assess the resulting structures. The course will address the process of structure determination of biological peptide/protein molecules using homo-nuclear NMR. At the end of the course, the student will be able to follow the procedure of one- and two-dimensional data acquisition and processing by NMR, and will be able to assign the two-dimensional spectrum; translate the data into structural restraints and calculate an ensemble of structures that define conformational space. The student will be able to analyze and determine the quality of the structure; perform secondary and tertiary structure analyses; and create and analyze the structure-dependent properties of the ensemble. Background and a certain amount of theory will be given for each of these stages.
